Jakarta –
Main Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati revealed, Indonesia still imports gasoline or gas. To cut this import, his party has prepared a number of plans.
Nicke said one of the strategies to cut gasoline imports was to mix it with methanol. This methanol can come from coal, natural gas to sugarcane.
“Therefore, we will also start this gasoline program mixed with methanol. Methanol can be from coal, it can be from natural gas. We have a lot of both. Sugar cane and corn too,” Nicke explained at the National Energy, Climate, Sustainability event. Competition (NECSC) 2023, Sunday (12/2/2023).
Nicke said the methanol mixture would start with a 20% portion. So that 20% of gasoline imports can be cut.
“We will start this program with 20%. So we can reduce 20% of imports,” he said.
He said the utilization of this methanol mixture is targeted for energy independence. Nicke also explained, in an effort to cut imports, Pertamina used CPO as a diesel fuel mixture.
He continued, Indonesia had not imported diesel fuel since 2019. Currently, the CPO mix in diesel has reached 35%.
“Starting in 2019, Indonesia will no longer import diesel fuel, because at that time in 2019 30% of diesel needs had been replaced with CPO, palm oil. We are now adding another 5%, 35%,” he said.
