Electric car Maxus T90 EV – First electric pickup in Norway

Several of the major car manufacturers such as Ford, Hummer, Chevrolet and Rivian are already on the road with electric pickups. Tesla has announced that their Cybertruck will go into production this year. None of these cars have yet set course for Europe.

Chinese Maxus has been in Norway with its electric vans since 2018. They will be the first with an electric pickup in Norway, when the first T90 EVs are delivered to customers during February.

Volvo’s new flagship

The Maxus T90 EV is a large electric pickup of well over five metres, which has five seats and a good equipment list. It includes, among other things, a battery heater, reversing camera, electrically adjustable leather seats and internal protection in the cargo area. However, you have to pay NOK 4,500 extra for a charging cable for home charging.

Two wheel drive only

It comes with a net battery capacity of 88.5 kWh and a range of 330 kilometers measured according to the WLTP standard with a load on the plane. The price starts at NOK 584,900.

Under the hood is an electric motor with 204 horsepower, which has a torque of 310 newton meters. It can tow a trailer of 1000 kilograms and also has a payload of 1000 kilograms. We’ve yet to drive the car, but as far as we can tell it has one major weakness – it’s only front-wheel drive.

Rejoices

Almost all pickups sold in Norway have four-wheel drive. This is an advantage for those who use the car in somewhat difficult driving conditions, not least with heavy loads or to tow a trailer. No new version of this car with four-wheel drive is planned either. On the other hand, a brand new pickup will come somewhat later that will have traction on all four wheels, according to the Norwegian importer.

NO COMPETITORS: The Maxus T90 EV has no electric competitors in Norway. Several of the major manufacturers, including Ford and Chevrolet, already have electric pickup trucks on the road in the United States. Photo: Maxus

Sales manager in Maxus Norway, Bernhard Jahnsen, is of course looking forward to starting the delivery of the car in Norway.

Affordable five-seater

– We are experiencing an extremely high interest in the pickup, and have ordered a large number of cars. With the T90 EV, we hit a completely new segment, where the car works just as well as a family car as it hits the commercial market. If you are going to have a five-seater pick-up with a petrol or diesel engine, you have to expect to pay up to a million kroner, says Jahnsen.

– In the first instance, we will sell the T90 EV as a 5-seater, but we will look at the possibilities of making local adaptations to 2-seater variants in order to be able to receive electric van benefits for company customers, says Jahnsen, who explains that the first Norwegian customers receive their car during February.
