Theodor Andrei will represent Romania at Eurovision 2023, with the song “DGT (Off and on)”, following the final of the National Selection held on Saturday and broadcast by TVR 1, TVR Internaţional, on the TVR+ platform and TVR’s social media accounts.
Theodor Andrei’s piece received the most votes from the public – 5,230, of which 2,556 votes were cast by phone and 2,674 online votes, the site informs http://eurovision.tvr.ro/2023.
Andreea D Folklor Orchestra took the next two places with the song “Periniţa mea” – 4,845 votes and Andrei Duţu with the song “Statues” – 4,302 votes.
The show presented by Ilinca Băcilă and Laurenţiu Niculescu was broadcast live on TVR1 and was commented online, for the first time, on TVR’s Twitch and YouTube accounts, by the creators of the #eurovisionestitu podcast: Laura Fronoiu, Marius Popa and Răzvan Petre.
At the end of the contest, a viewer was chosen at random and participated in the vote either by phone call or online. The organizers went live with it. The viewer correctly answered a question about the content of the show and won a prize of 5,000 euros.
In the Eurovision 2023 Romania final, the public could vote for their favorite song by phone call (normal rate) or online during the performance of each song or at the end of the show, when the compositions in the contest were recapitulated.

The 2023 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) will take place in Great Britain, which will organize the contest on behalf of Ukraine, due to the war that broke out on the territory of this country. The event will take place at the Liverpool Arena and will have two semi-finals and the grand final.
The semi-finals will take place on May 9 and 11, and the grand final on May 13. The representative of Romania will compete in the second semi-final.
The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is the most important international music competition, organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) – the largest European association of public broadcasters.
The ESC has been held every year since 1956. The show is one of the longest-running and most watched television programs in the world and is broadcast in Europe as well as in Australia, Asia and the United States.
Romanian Television is the organizer of the National Selection and participates in the European competition since 1993.
Romania’s best performances at this competition were: twice third place (Luminiţa Anghel & Sistem – Kiev, 2005; Paula Seling and Ovi – Oslo, 2010) and once fourth place (Mihai Trăistariu – Athens, 2006) ).
