The Steam page for Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s upcoming Like a Dragon remake: Ishin confirms that the game will be compatible with Valve’s hybrid handheld Steam Deck system. For the uninitiated, it’s a remake of a spin-off of the franchise that puts the player in a period drama set in Japan’s Bakamatsu era. It stars Sakamoto Ryoma, whose visual appearance and voice are reminiscent of Kazuma Kiryu, who is searching for his father’s killer. This release will mark the first time Like a Dragon: Ishin will be released in the West after being a Japan exclusive for nearly nine years.
This remake also marks the game’s multiplatform debut, as the original Like a Dragon: Ishin was released at the end of the PS3’s life and was originally a PS4 launch title. This remake brings the game not only to Xbox and PC, but also to next-gen consoles such as PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. One system that fans may not have thought about with the PC version of Ishin is the Steam Deck, Valve’s handheld hybrid. As shown on Ishin’s Steam page, the game is Steam Deck verified.
Steam Deck first launched last year, allowing gamers to play their Steam libraries on the go, enabling a new wave of handheld and portable gaming. Plenty of people are using Valve’s new system to play a wide variety of games, so gamers can play big-budget AAA games on the go, just like the Switch. Previous Like a Dragon games have been Steam Deck verified, including the recent mainline Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Perhaps it will come as no surprise that Ishin will follow suit and be compatible with the Steam Deck.
Steam Deck compatibility means that the game’s features will be available with default controller configurations where the Steam Deck buttons are displayed during gameplay. The text of the in-game interface and the default graphics are quite readable even on the smaller screen of the deck. Ishin Remake joins the ever-growing list of Steam Deck-compatible games, allowing fans to play this samurai adventure on the go.
The remake is currently one of the most anticipated releases in the franchise. Fans can’t wait to experience what this game is all about, as it’s an elusive Like a Dragon game for western fans due to the lack of localization. Fans have also expressed excitement about some of the mechanics of Like a Dragon Ishin, as it is a familiar beat-em-up action game with multiple fighting styles, similar to Yakuza 0 or Yakuza Kiwami.
Like a Dragon: Ishin will be released on February 23, 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
