Carts full of household waste, but also complete cupboards and beds: since the Makro branch along Woluwelaan in Machelen closed its doors for good, litter is often left behind. “Especially at the back there is a lot of garbage, but also in the rest of the parking lot,” says alderman Steve Claeys (N-VA). “Obviously it’s getting worse. The waste also contains food, which stinks and attracts rats.”
