In Cherbourg, the Terminus de sciences association offers puzzles on the occasion of the day of women and girls in science. The objective for the participants: to unravel the mystery in one hour and find the name of a scientist.
At the start of the course, this Saturday afternoon, six stages to be completed using a map and a series of questions. The format is intended to be fun, with volunteers to guide the players. The main goal is to highlight women scientists, on the occasion of the world day of women in science. Clara Michaud, one of the members of the Terminus de sciences association, slips into the microphone of Europe 1 a clue about the time of the scientist to be found. “Contemporary, so she is still active. Over the past twenty years, she has worked a lot,” says the volunteer.
Highlighting contemporary women scientists
The mystery remains whole around its name. Participants will have one hour to find out and understand how women continue to advance research. “There is a bit of a received idea that the golden age of women scientists was in the 20th century and we wanted to show that there are still many women scientists who are making discoveries and in any case who are actively working”, she explains.
Street names in Cherbourg will be feminized during the treasure hunt with scientists like Marie Curie or Emmanuelle Charpentier, Nobel Prize in Chemistry three years ago. Figures set to inspire future generations.
