Policewoman saves woman’s life and reaps a wave of hate – Austria-News

Policewoman Lisa Höglinger saved the life of a pensioner. Instead of thanks, the 30-year-old is now ridiculed for her appearance.

A few days ago, without hesitation, police officer Lisa Höglinger rushed to the aid of an unconscious woman lying on Baumbachstrasse in Linz. The 75-year-old had collapsed in front of her sister and was no longer responsive. Together with her colleagues, Höglinger started resuscitation and brought the unconscious woman back to life with the defibrillator.

On that day, Höglinger and her colleagues became lifesavers. The press office of the state police headquarters in Upper Austria was proud and honored Lisa and her three male colleagues as “Police Officers of the Week” on their Facebook page.

“What kind of woman is that please?”

But instead of celebrating the officials as lifesavers, dozens of sexist comments hailed under the post. The focus was on Höglinger’s appearance because of her short hairstyle. Comments like “What kind of woman is that please?” are still among the most harmless. Some users called the police officer “Horst”.

The social media team responsible for the press office had not expected the wave of hate comments. “We would not have thought of it to that extent. We had to delete many comments when posting. But Lisa is over it,” said a police spokesman “Today”.

“I like myself the way I am”

With a second posting – on which only Höglinger can be seen – the department honored her colleague again. In addition to a few negative comments, there are many positive comments under the post that celebrate the police officer’s work.

“Just because it bothers others how I look doesn’t mean I’ll change myself. I like myself the way I am.”

Höglinger himself now leaves the understated statements cold. “Just because it bothers others how I look doesn’t mean that I will change. I like myself the way I am,” the official told the “Upper Austrian News”. According to the 30-year-old, the short hairstyle was a conscious decision. She has heard enough inappropriate comments on the street.

State police director Andreas Pilsl is appalled by the abnormal statements. “We were shocked by the amount of sexist comments. We are proud to have Lisa in the police family,” he explains.
