Kim Ye-rim, who placed first in the short circuit the day before, won a silver medal in women’s singles.
Lee Hae-in (Sehwa Girls’ High School) became the first Korean female figure skater to win a gold medal at the International Skating Union (ISU) Four Continents Championships 14 years after Kim Yu-na (retired).
On the 11th (Korean time), Lee Hae-in participated in the women’s single free skating competition held at the Broadmoor World Arena in Springs, Colorado, USA, recording a season high of 74.96 points in technical score (TES) and 66.75 points in art score (PCS), with a total of 141.71 points. Ranked 1st out of 21 players (2 abstaining).
Lee Hae-in, who placed 6th in the short program the previous day with 69.13 points, came from behind to win with a final total of 210.84 points. Kim Ye-rim (Dankook University), who took first place in the short program the previous day (72.84 points), won the silver medal with a final score of 209.29, including 136.45 points (3rd place) in the free skating.
Lee Hae-in and Kim Ye-rim, who won silver and bronze medals at the same competition last year, respectively, changed their medal colors one step up and stood on the podium for two consecutive competitions. It is the first time Lee Hae-in has reached the top in a major ISU event. The Four Continents Championship is a major tournament in which athletes from four continents, excluding Europe, participate: Asia, America, Oceania, and Africa.
Lee Hae-in, who left a bit of regret in the short program jump the previous day, smiled broadly after showing clean performances from the first jump to the last jump to the music of the musical ‘Phantom of the Opera’. In the case of Kim Ye-rim, the number of rotations was insufficient in some jump assignments in the second half.
While Isabo Levito (USA), who placed second in the short program, withdrew from the free skating, the bronze medal went to Monet Chiba (204.98 points) of Japan, who placed 7th in the short program (67.28 points) and 2nd in the free (137.70 points). Kim Chae-yeon (Surigo) fell once in the free skating and received 131.00 points (5th place), and 71.39 points (3rd place) in the short event the day before was combined to place 4th with a total score of 202.39 points.
