News, Labor Party | Odd Eriksen is dead: – We love him terribly

Former leader of the Nordland Labor Party and Minister of Industry, Odd Eriksen, died on the night of Saturday. He is survived by two children and three grandchildren.

Eriksen was a prominent politician from the Labor Party. He was 1st deputy representative to the Storting from Nordland 1989–1993 and permanently elected representative 1993–2001.

He was leader of the Nordland Labor Party 2001–2006 and county councilor for industry and transport in Nordland 2003–2005. He was minister for business 2005–2006 and county council leader in Nordland 2006–2013.

Eriksen is survived by his son Mads Daniel Bjørkås, daughter Maia Eriksen and three grandchildren.

– We are both incredibly proud of him and everything he has done for the community and our future. We have been all our lives. We miss him very much, and love him very much, says Mads on behalf of the family.

Eriksen became nationally known when he helped overpower the hijacker on a Kato Air plane in 2004, and thus prevented the plane from crashing near Bodø.

For this he received the Polaris Award from the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA).

Eriksen was also named Northerner of the Year for his efforts.
