The co-founder of Microsoft believes that the changes coming with artificial intelligence are not taking the expected direction
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates believes that ChatGPT – the chatbot that gives close to human answers to various queries – is a significant development as far as the Internet is concerned. He revealed this to the German business daily Handelsblatt in an interview published today.
“So far, the AI could read and write, but it couldn’t understand the content. New programs like ChatGPT will make a lot of office work more efficient like writing invoices or letters. This will change our world,” he commented.
According to Gates, it will take several years before the problems are cleared, but now there is “no turning back”.
“The billions that are pouring into these software development and digital companies are bigger than the research budgets of governments,” he says.
ChatGPT, developed by US firm OpenAI and backed by Microsoft, has become the fastest growing consumer application in history.
The billionaire does not see artificial intelligence as a threat to jobs. According to him, there will not be fewer doctors or teachers in the future. He believes that in the long run, people’s working hours will decrease because machines will take care of routine tasks. This means that employees will be able to concentrate on much more important tasks.
“Until now, it was thought that factory workers would be replaced most quickly by robots. This is happening, but it seems as if artificial intelligence will be the first to help office work become more efficient,” Gates also commented.
