The Lausanne Opera Foundation Board has appointed Claude Cortese, current director of artistic production at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, as head of the institution. He will succeed Eric Vigié from July 1, 2024.

At the end of a recruitment process that began last September, the Selection Committee unanimously proposed to the Foundation Board and the Municipality of Lausanne to appoint Claude Cortese, the Opéra de Lausanne indicated on Thursday. His candidacy was selected from among fifty files received.

A musician by training, the Marseillais already knows the Opéra de Lausanne for having started his career there, as a manager, at the age of 19. Subsequently, he perfected his professional knowledge within major international opera institutions, before an eight-year commitment as production manager at the Grand Théâtre de Genève.

From 2003, Claude Cortese held various artistic director positions at Angers Nantes Opéra, at the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, then at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, where he currently serves as production director. artistic.

A man who masters all the artistic cogs

In its press release, the Opéra de Lausanne specifies that “this long professional experience at the directorial level allows it to master all the artistic, technical and budgetary cogs inherent in the programming of the seasons entrusted to it”.

As for Philippe Hebeisen, chairman of the foundation board, and Grégoire Junod, syndic of Lausanne and vice-chairman of the board, they “are delighted with the appointment of Claude Cortese, whose personality and ability to federate around him will enable the Lausanne Opera to further develop its influence and success, to the high level of notoriety to which its current director Eric Vigié has raised it.”
