In the English port city of Great Yarmouth on Friday, a meter-long bomb weighing 250 kilograms suddenly exploded, which was discovered the day before and planned to be defused elsewhere.
About this, as he writes “European Truth”, reported Norfolk County Police.
An unexploded bomb at Great Yarmouth detonated during the afternoon while deactivating the explosive part. According to confirmed information, no one was injured and there were no reports of injuries or casualties.
According to emergency services, several windows in cars were blown out by the blast, the upper part of the scaffolding on the bridge was damaged, and the flood protection dam was also slightly damaged.
As noted BBCsocial media users reported hearing the explosion up to 24 kilometers from the epicenter.
The bomb was discovered a few days ago by a private contractor who is building a third crossing over the local Yar River. Immediately after that, the police set up a strict 200-meter and an additional 400-meter cordon, blocked nearby roads and resettled some of the local residents.
As part of the security measures, a sand barrier was built around the projectile, which at the time of detonation allowed to mitigate the consequences. A few hours after the incident, the police cordons were removed and the residents of Great Yarmouth were allowed to return to their homes.
Last year, we recall, in the English city of Exeter, a 1,000-kilogram German bomb from the Second World War was detonated in a controlled manner.
