On the orders of President Joe Biden, an American fighter jet today shot down an object the size of a small car at a high altitude over Alaska, the White House announced, Reuters reported.
White House spokesman John Kirby told reporters that not many details are known about the object, but the United States expects to recover it, as it fell into American territorial waters, BTA reported.
It’s unclear where the object came from, Kirby said.
According to him, the object fell in the extreme northeastern part of Alaska, near the border with Canada. Kirby, quoting the fighter pilot who shot down the object, said there were no people on board.
On February 4, the United States shot down a Chinese high-altitude surveillance balloon that passed over United States territory.
Kirby was careful not to classify the object brought down today as a balloon, according to Reuters. He stated that information about the new object and its trajectory became known to the US for the first time last night.
