On Friday, the United States announced that it had shot down a “flying object” that flew at a high altitude over Alaska.
The Pentagon said that an F-22 fighter jet shot down a “car-sized object” at an altitude of 40,000 feet over Alaska, adding that the source of the object was unknown.
The White House also announced that US forces shot down a “flying object at high altitude” over Alaska.
White House spokesman John Kirby said: “The unidentified object fell near the northeastern part of Alaska, near Canada.”
The spokesman stated that this “object” was at an altitude of 40 thousand feet, and posed a threat to air navigation.
Kerry indicated that the US administration received an alert for the first time about this object on Thursday night.
He added, “I am not aware of communication with the Chinese after another object fell near Alaska,” referring to the downing of a Chinese balloon a few days ago.
The spokesman highlighted that the unidentified object is “the size of a small car,” adding: “We expect to recover it after it lands in US territorial waters.
The Federal Aviation Administration closed parts of the airspace over northern Alaska to support Department of Defense operations.
Last week, the US military carried out an operation to shoot down a Chinese balloon that had been flying for several days over the US sky.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the Chinese airship was shot down by a fighter jet off the coast of South Carolina.
