An inflamed appendix can cause a slow, dull pain in the abdomen.
If left untreated, a ruptured appendix can spread bacteria throughout the abdominal cavity.
These bacteria cause peritonitis, a potentially fatal infection that can result in death.
Apart from surgery, there are several natural ways that can help recovery for appendicitis patients.
The following is an explanation, as quoted on the page Pharmeasy.in.
1. A nutritious diet
It may take some time to return to your pre-appendicectomy diet.
Eating smaller meals more frequently, such as 6 to 8 small meals throughout the day, is one natural way which helps to gradually return to the usual diet.
It is very important to drink lots of water and caffeine-free fluids after an appendectomy to avoid constipation and bowel problems.
Include foods that contain bromelain, an enzyme that helps relieve pain and wound healing.
Lack of zinc in food can interfere with the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Choose foods that are healthy and easy to digest.
2. Eat lots of foods rich in vitamin C
Clinical studies have shown that vitamin C plays a critical role in all aspects of wound healing, from neutrophil clearance to scab formation.
To ensure speedy recovery from deep wounds, a diet rich in vitamin C is essential.
The highest sources of ascorbic acid or vitamin C are amla, strawberries, limes, kiwi fruit, red capsicum, guava, oranges, grapefruit and cauliflower.
3. Consumption of green beans
Mung bean contains antibacterial properties, which makes it an ideal post-surgery recovery food.
They are considered a stomach cooling food. Doctors and practitioners recommend eating one tablespoon of rinsed and soaked mung beans daily, either raw, steamed, or lightly cooked in a microwave.
For best results, consume three times a day.
4. Increase your activity gradually
Rest is very important after an appendectomy, as is light activity. When you are ready, gradually increase your activity level.
Short walks, even around the house, are a great place to start and can help prevent pneumonia and blood clots.
An added benefit is that being active encourages your digestive system to return to normal more quickly.
Constipation can be excruciating, so include some doctor-approved exercise in your daily routine, drink plenty of fluids and take stool softeners if your doctor recommends it.
5. Exercise on the postoperative bed
If you recently had an appendectomy, you will most likely be in bed for a long time.
Before trying any exercises while in bed, consult your doctor.
If your doctor approves, start with a simple leg pump and lift to increase blood flow and circulation in the lower half of your body.
In addition, doing exercises in bed can help reduce the likelihood of blood clots forming in the lower extremities. Do this exercise every hour while lying in bed.
6. Gentle abdominal exercises at home
After a few weeks of rest, start walking slowly and avoid strengthening exercises.
Begin by sitting on the edge of the bed with your legs hanging over the edge.
Raise your legs until they are parallel to the floor, keeping your back straight and firm.
Hold for a few seconds before slowly lowering your leg back to the starting position. Repeat until finished.(fny/jpnn)
