Depeche Mode are back with a single

After the death of founding member Andrew Fletcher, Depeche Mode continue as a duo. The fact that their new album for the world tour is called “Memento Mori” is something the synth rockers don’t want to be understood as a morbid gesture. The first single “Ghosts Again” is out now.

British synth rockers Depeche Mode have released new music for the first time since their last album “Spirit” from 2017. The first release of the forthcoming long player is called “Ghosts Again” and can now also be listened to with a music video on YouTube. “For me, ‘Ghosts Again’ captures the perfect balance between melancholy and joy,” says frontman Dave Gahan, explaining the intended mood of the brand new track. Meanwhile, bandmate Martin Gore is happy to finally “be able to share the song with the world.”

The accompanying record “Memento Mori” will follow on March 24th, it is already the band’s 15th studio album. The track list for the new album has also been published: In addition to “Ghosts Again” there will be eleven more songs on it. “Memento Mori”, the Latin title of the new album, means “Remember that you will die”. That might sound “morbid,” said Gore, 61. But you can also look at it positively: “When you realize that you have to die, you live your life to the maximum.” Depeche Mode had to cope with a stroke of fate last May when founding member Andrew Fletcher died in March at the age of just 60 from a ruptured main artery.

The band had already announced that there would be new music for Depeche Mode fans at the beginning of October 2022 at a press conference in Berlin broadcast live on the Internet. Even more: A world tour was also announced in the course of this.

The Memento Mori World Tour kicks off March 23rd in Sacramento, California and ends August 11th in Oslo, Norway. Appearances are also planned for Germany. Depeche Mode will stop on May 26, 2023 in Leipzig, June 4 and 6 in Düsseldorf, June 20 in Munich, June 29 and July 1 in Frankfurt and July 7 and 9 in Berlin. All tour dates lists the official website the band up.
