The first quarter of 2023 arrives with increases for the platforms of streaming. Both Netflix and Spotify announced an increase in the price of their plans, which will be reflected in March.
The rise of Netflix
The movie and series streaming giant comes from a complex 2022, with a decrease in its number of subscribers due to the announcement of a controversial measure: prevent users from sharing the account and force them to pay an extra figure if they decide to do so. This announcement, which was not finally incorporated in 2022 but was will arrive in 2023, caused users to lead the #ChauNetflix campaign to unsubscribe from the platform. The numbers will depend on the plan and how many devices will be allowed to connect simultaneously.
What are the new prices? According to the platform, the basic plan of Netflix it will be worth $699 and, with tax, the total fee will be $1,230. In this case, only one device can be connected to the account. What about Spotify?
As for Spotify, it jumped on the trend that it spearheaded YouTube Music, which increased its rates by 226% in November (from $119 to $389, in the case of a cheaper subscription to the premium service). The rate increase for the platform dedicated to music and podcasts will be 33% for the family premium pack. Thus, this plan will go from costing $489 to $649 per month and with taxes it will be $1,122 per month. The platform made the determination modify your prices because it closed 2022 with losses of US$465 million. This, they speculate, has to do with the decision of its CEO and founder, Daniel, not to increase the values of your membership for 12 years. Along with the increase in service, Spotify announced a 6% cut in its workforce – the equivalent of 600 people – as a measure to alleviate the enormous red in its accounts.
