Don’t ask for innovation results, but the license

Jakarta

Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Laksana Tri Handoko spoke about the results of BRIN’s 2-year work since it was formed in April 2021. Tri emphasized that researchers should not be asked about innovation results.

“I always answer, researchers don’t ask about the results of innovation, ask about the license, ask which one of them?” said Tri Handoko to reporters at the BRIN Office, Central Jakarta, Friday (10/2/2023).

“If we are asked about the results of the innovation, he will just launch it. When it comes to launching, it’s easy, it’s just for self-exhibition, isn’t it. But is that really going to happen, entering the industry?” he added.

Tri said that his party was focused on licensing the results of research conducted by BRIN researchers. According to him, licensing is far more important than launching an innovative product.

“We focus on licensing, focus on the industry directly, because it is precisely the process that is important, that’s what has not been done so far,” he said.

He assessed that issuing a research license would be much more useful because it could generate royalties compared to launching an innovative product. He admits that he does not like to show off the achievements of the institution he leads.

“So we publish every year and hand over the royalties given to our friends, whose patents have been licensed and that’s quite good, and that’s far more concrete than, and creates a real economic effect, rather than launching spending money too,” he said.

“I was also asked, ‘Why not launching?’. I don’t like to show off, I said,” he continued.
