Although some iPhone Pro models feature a telephoto camera lens with 3x optical zoom that allows you to take close-ups of distant subjects without compromising quality, these features are not available on many other iPhone models.
But thanks to the latest update to the popular third-party camera app Halide, users with non-Pro iPhones can now take a close-up photo of distant objects in high quality.
Halide 2.11 comes with a new feature called Neural Telephoto, which adds virtual lenses to the app’s interface that enhance detail in shots.
Typically, when digital zoom is used to enlarge an image area, the number of megapixels decreases, decreasing the image quality, resulting in jagged, blurry shots with visible pixels.
Neural Telephoto takes these shots and enhances them with its machine learning system, providing much better results at a default 2x zoom, according to the app’s developers.
Shots are enlarged or reduced and enhanced using machine learning and the app shoots in RAW and JPEG mode, which provides users with an unaltered RAW file along with an optimized JPEG file.
The feature is now available as a free update to all users who use the app before the new update is rolled out. For new users, the app is priced at $2.99 per month or $11.99 per year.Mac RumorsMail.
