TNI AD Sends Troops to Nduga, Save Pilot Susi Air and Chase the Perpetrators

Jakarta

KSAD General Dudung Abdurachman said the Indonesian Army would send troops to Paro, Nduga, Papua Mountains, to rescue pilot Susi Air. Dudung said he was going to Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport this afternoon to give directions to members.

“Today I will go to Halim, I want to see the troops who will be dispatched to Papua. I will give morale to them to carry out their duties well and protect the people who are there from threats or intimidation from the KKB groups,” said Dudung at Headquarters, Gambir, Central Jakarta, Friday (10/2/2023).

Dudung said the troops would make a persuasive approach to save the pilot and pursue the perpetrators. It emphasizes the human side but also firm.

“The approach is still humane, but the one who can answer this is the authority of the TNI Headquarters. If I only send but the one using it is the TNI Headquarters, the concept I see is still persuasive, humane and remains firm on terrorist actors,” said Dudung.

According to Dudung there were two targets run by troops. The first was to save a Susi Air pilot named Philips Marthen and chase the perpetrators.

“Yes, that’s more or less the case, both (rescue the pilot and chase the perpetrator) must achieve that target. I think it’s especially for Paro (troops sent),” he said.

However, Dudung failed to spell out how many troops would be sent.

Previously, the PK-BVY aircraft belonging to the Susi Air airline was burned by KKB at the Paro Airport, Paro District, Nduga, Papua Mountains. In addition, the pilot of the plane was allegedly taken hostage by the KKB.

The police are still searching for the Susi Air pilot. The local government (pemda) to Nduga community leaders were also involved in conducting the search.

“Now we are focusing and taking the best steps to find and save Pilot Susi Air,” said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, when asked for confirmation from detik.com, Thursday (9/2).

Benny explained that until now the biggest obstacle to saving the pilot named Philips Marthen was the lack of telecommunication access. In addition, access to the entry of troops into these locations is very difficult.

“But there is no reason for us to stop looking for and rescuing the pilot. The state must be present and provide security guarantees for all people, especially for foreign nationals who serve this country,” he said.

The TNI Commander Cannot Confirm that Pilot Susi Air is being held hostage by the KKB

TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono could not confirm the news that the Susi Air pilot was taken hostage by KKB terrorists at Paro Airport, Nduga, Central Papua. Because, he said, there were no witnesses who saw the hostage-taking incident.

“This is still not certain. Right from the start we didn’t have any witnesses there. When it was burnt, where did he run, ran alone or was taken away, until now there is no information. So I can’t determine whether or not the KKB detained him. ” Yudo told reporters at the Satria Manggala Museum, South Jakarta, Thursday (9/2/2023).

Until now, said Yudo, his party is still observing the whereabouts of pilot Captain Philips M, who is a citizen of New Zealand. They are also continuing to search.
