The Benjamin children’s book collection is the only part of Walter Benjamin’s library that has remained largely intact to this day. The richly illustrated fairy tale, ABC and non-fiction books traveled with Dora Benjamin (née Kellner) via Italy to London. In 1985 the Institute for Youth Book Research succeeded in bringing her to the Goethe University. On the occasion of the recent digitization and partial conservational processing of the more than 200 historical volumes, the Johann Christian Senckenberg University Library and the Institute for Young Adult Book Research are shed light on the content and significance of the inventory in an exhibition. What stages has the collection passed through? What role did she play in Benjamin’s thinking and writing? What questions do the volumes and their illustrations raise today?
