Chennai: Indian opener Murali Vijay has been open about the approach of some Mumbai mantars towards South Indian players. On the second day of the first Test against Australia, Murali Vijay was angered by Manjrekar’s remark when the list of Indian players leading in converting half-centuries into centuries was shown on the television screen.
Murali Vijay tops the list of half-centuries converted into centuries in domestic Tests with a conversion rate of 60 percent. Vijay played 30 Tests in India and scored six fifties and nine centuries. Muhammad Azharuddin is in the second position. During the commentary, Manjrekar said that when these figures were shown on the television screen, he was surprised to see Murali Vijay’s name at the top spot. Immediately after this, Murali Vijay, who tweeted that he was surprised or was it good, then tweeted that some former Mumbai players are hesitant to congratulate South Indian players.

Vijay played 61 Tests for India and played 17 ODIs and nine T20Is. Vijay scored 2982 runs at an average of 38.28 in 61 Tests and scored 12 centuries and 15 fifties. Earlier, during the 2019 ODI World Cup, Manjrekar called Ravindra Jadeja a cheating player.
Why surprised Sanjay Manjrekar? There was a time when Vijay and Pujara had the highest partnership average for the top order. Interesting comment.
