JAKARTA – The war between Russia and Ukraine is still raging today. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is increasingly involved in the war by sending weapons to Ukraine to fight Russia. Russia has even threatened NATO countries with a nuclear strike.

It is known, Russia has the most nuclear weapons in the world. The country has already tested the state-of-the-art RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile. Russia also has the Avangard nuclear-capable hypersonic missile in its arsenal. The missile is said to be capable of bypassing existing air defenses due to its extreme speed and ability to perform constant maneuvers during launch.

So, which NATO countries have Russia threatened to annihilate? The following is a list.

1. United States

The United States (US) joined NATO since the organization’s inception in 1949. Since its invasion of Ukraine, Russia has issued a bluff in the form of threats of a nuclear strike against countries that tried to intervene, including the US.

Previously, Russia had actually made the same threat to the US if Washington carried out a low-yield nuclear ballistic missile attack against Moscow in 2020. At that time, according to Russia, any attack using ballistic missiles launched from US submarines, including nuclear attacks, would be responded to with nuclear weapons.

2. England

Britain has been a member of NATO since 1949. In September 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s former top adviser, Sergei Markov, threatened Britain with a nuclear attack. This was conveyed in an interview with the BBC. According to him, Putin is ready to launch his nuclear weapons against the West, including Britain.

Meanwhile, former British Prime Minister (PM) Boris Jhonson claimed to have been threatened by Russian President Vladimir Putin with missiles, in his talks with Putin before the invasion occurred.
