With the recruitment of Gustavo Dudamel, the NY Phil, the oldest American musical institution (created in 1842), reaffirms its ambitions after the pharaonic $550 million renovation of its setting, David Geffen Hall, at Lincoln Center. The room, which reopened this season, has a new design and much better acoustics. Gustavo Dudamel made his debut with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007 and has already conducted 26 concerts there as guest conductor. This year, the 42-year-old Venezuelan maestro will lead the NY Phil in 3 performances of the Symphony No. 9 de Gustav Mahler, du 19 au 21 mai.
