Poland is closing an important border crossing to Belarus indefinitely, Polish authorities said on Thursday. The Belarusian authorities do not like it.
Relations between the two countries have been cool for a long time, and on Wednesday it got even worse when a Belarusian journalist with Polish background was sentenced to eight years in prison in Belarus in a trial that Poland says is politically motivated.
On Thursday, the Polish Minister of the Interior, Mariusz Kaminski, announced that the border crossing in Bobrowniki will be closed indefinitely. The border crossing is one of the busiest between the two countries.
A spokesman for the Belarusian border force calls the closure unjustified and says it could lead to congestion at the other border crossings.
