The Super League does not give up: Trying again with a major football tournament in Europe

DON’T GIVE UP: The Real Madrid management refuses to give up hope of the Super League. Here is the club during the semi-final of the Club World Cup against Al Ahly on Wednesday. Rodrygo is celebrated after scoring. Real Madrid won 4–1.

The big clubs Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are said to have contacted more than 50 clubs in Europe in the hope of creating a super league.

Super League’s sister company – A22 – reports this in articles published in several European newspapers on Thursday The Telegraph. The company has written a long thread on Twitter on Thursday morning:

The news comes just over two years after the Super League crashed before it could take off, partly because of angry fans, then they try again. It is the three clubs remaining from the previous attempt: Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus who are behind the initiative.

They are said to have already contacted 50 clubs and envisage a league with between 60 and 80 clubs. All participating clubs must play at least 14 matches.

There are many cups out there already, one of which is the Club World Cup. Real Madrid qualified for the final after a 4-1 win over Al Ahly on Wednesday:

Two years ago, the club owners and the company behind the proposal proposed a league with permanent clubs, where they wanted Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham from England. This time the proposal is not permanent membership for a few clubs, writes The Telegraph.

There should be no exact plan for how clubs can enter and drop out of the Super League.

The European Football Association (UEFA) does not appreciate the initiative. Head of A22, Bernd Reichart, continues to attack UEFA.

– Our conversations have made it clear that it is often impossible for the clubs to say anything against a system that uses threats to stop people, says Reichart writes The Telegraph.

Two years ago, UEFA threatened to kick clubs that were considering becoming part of the Super League out of their domestic leagues such as the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A.
