At the start of the new season, Werder Bremen will be strengthened with squad planner Johannes Jahns from Austrian club RB Salzburg. As the Bundesliga club announced on Wednesday, Jahns will be responsible for scouting, squad planning and recruiting for the green-whites.

Born in Bremen, Jahns was previously responsible for transfer management at Salzburg. Sports director Frank Baumann praised Jahns’ “great expertise”. At that time, he is said to have guided the Norwegian striker star Erling Haaland, ex-professional from Borussia Dortmund and current top scorer from Manchester City, to the Austrians.
At the same time, professional football manager Clemens Fritz is to take on other tasks in the area of the licensed players department, for which Baumann is currently still responsible. This is intended to introduce Fritz to the post of managing director. The 47-year-old sports director Baumann had announced that he would take a break after the end of the contract in 2024.
