Frampton’s future organic matter sorting center will be equipped with robots to facilitate the work. This project is in collaboration with the MRC de Bellechasse and that of La Nouvelle-Beauce.
The contracts were awarded to Sparta Manufacturing inc. at a cost of $1,995,937.50 for the MRC de La Nouvelle-Beauce and $1,858,730.25 for Bellechasse, all before taxes. The price difference is due to additional equipment at the Frampton facility.
“Yes, the collection of organic matter in Bellechasse and Nouvelle-Beauce is coming soon,” said Mr. Yvon Dumont, prefect of the MRC de Bellechasse, enthusiastically. We are aware that our choice of process is very innovative and that with this pioneering side comes a certain share of unforeseen events which can modify the schedule a little, but we are confident of being able to start the collection in the fall of 2024. “
It should be noted that the two MRCs have chosen the process of collecting food waste in bags, assisted by a robotic sorting system, and that they have signed a partnership agreement to join forces in this project.
“In addition to bringing together the expertise of our teams, this partnership allows us to achieve economies of scale by grouping our purchases. The next step will be to finalize the plans and specifications for our buildings to launch the construction tender no later than this summer.”said Mr. Gaétan Vachon, prefect of the MRC de La Nouvelle-Beauce.
Citizens will be kept informed of the development of the project as it progresses.
The MRCs of the province have until 2025 to set up a collection of organic materials on their territory in order to divert them from landfill.
