Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Instant messaging application WhatsApp launched 5 new features for its users focusing on Statusfrom statuses that can use voicemail to hiding statuses.
Status on WhatsApp is one way to share updates with friends and contacts. Every status disappears within 24 hours, including photos, videos, GIFs, and text.
Like chats and calls, WhatsApp statuses are also protected by end-to-end encryption so users can share privately and securely.
With a number of new features in Status, WhatsApp wants to improve its user experience in this way of communicating.
WhatsApp head Will Cathhart announced this latest feature on his Twitter account @wcathcart.
“You can now share voice messages in statuses, use the audience selector for privacy, and quickly respond to updates from others with reactions. We’ve also added a profile ring so it’s easier to find new statuses, and improved link previews,” he said in a tweet on Tuesday (7/2).

Meta says these features have started rolling out to users globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks. Reporting from the Meta site, here is a list of the latest features for WhatsApp Status:
1. Private Audience Selector
The status that users share may not always be suitable for all your contacts, therefore WhatsApp provides a feature that allows users to choose who sees the status every time the user updates it.
Your most recent audience selection will be saved and used as the default for future statuses.
Previously, audience selection had to be made via the Settings section, but now users can do so in the Status column.
2. Voice Status
WhatsApp now provides the ability to record and share voice messages up to 30 seconds on WhatsApp status.
This feature is a new alternative for users who feel more comfortable doing status updates by voice.
3. Status Reactions
WhatsApp added status reactions to give responses to status updates from other users.
Now users can reply to any status by swiping up and tapping on one of the eight emojis.
4. Status Profile Ring for New Updates
With the new status profile ring, users are said to never miss a status from their loved ones. This ring will appear around a user’s contact’s profile picture whenever they share a status update. This ring will be visible in the chat list, group participant list, and contact info.
5. Preview Links in Status
Now when a user posts a link in their status, the user will automatically see a visual preview of the content, just like when sending a message. The visual preview is said to make the user’s status look better and also give the user’s contacts a better idea of what the link will be like before they click.
