In the maternity clinics in the Vorderpfalz, a few babies saw the light of day again on New Year’s Day – only the Marien Hospital in Ludwigshafen went empty-handed.
There was not a single birth on January 1st in the St. Marien Hospital in Ludwigshafen. That was a big surprise and had never been the case for at least 20 years, clinic spokeswoman Katja Hein told SWR. Five to six births a day are normal.
On New Year’s Eve at 11:19 p.m. a little boy was born. On New Year’s Day there was radio silence for more than 24 hours. It wasn’t until January 2nd that a child was born again, a girl, at exactly 12:24 a.m.
The name of the first New Year’s baby in the Vorderpfalz is Mael
The first birth in the Vorderpfalz was probably in the Marienhaus Klinikum Hetzelstift in Neustadt. According to spokeswoman Lisa Strauss, little Mael was born there at 1:36 a.m. – weighing 3740 grams and measuring 54 cm.
Mael’s parents come from Böhl-Iggelheim (Rhine-Palatinate district). He already has three older siblings, who are all very happy about the New Year’s baby. By the way, Mael’s great-grandmother died on 1.1. was born and celebrated her 75th birthday yesterday.
Also in Speyer and at the Ludwigshafen Clinic, there are children on New Year’s Day
In the deaconess hospital in Speyer, a girl was born by caesarean section at 3:46 a.m. – quite a surprise for the mother, who had already prepared for a New Year’s Eve party, according to the house.
But Ludwigshafen also has at least one New Year’s baby: the hospital in Ludwigshafen was able to welcome its first offspring at 10:27 a.m.
