VIVA Lifestyle – Although it’s rare, signs of high cholesterol apparently can appear in a number of parts of the face that are quite distinctive and easy to recognize. One of them, a lump with discoloration on the upper and lower eyelids which is often ignored by many people.
Many experts say that signs of high cholesterol in the body are difficult to recognize by naked eye. However, some cases with high cholesterol or high triglycerides, also called hyperlipidemia, may show symptoms on the face. Scroll for more information.
For example, some people with hyperlipidemia may develop a soft to hard, painless yellowish patch or bump on the eyelid called a xanthelasma. Researchers link high cholesterol levels to other inflammatory dermatological conditions, including lichen planus and psoriasis.
In addition, high cholesterol may appear as a gray ring in the eye called the corneal arcus. This is especially true for those with a family history of high cholesterol.
Research from 2022 shows that high blood cholesterol levels can increase a person’s risk of stroke, heart disease, acute pancreatitis, and peripheral vascular disease.
Although, the only way to know if someone has high cholesterol levels is through a blood test and lipid panel. There’s nothing wrong with trying to see the marks on the face that might lead to high cholesterol.
