Star Wars Jedi fans think Cal’s running animation is ‘stupid’

Star Wars Jedi fans are mocking Cal’s “stupid” new walking animation in Survivor’s final gameplay footage as if he “shit in his pants”.

Yesterday, IGN released the first gameplay footage of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, showing Cal Kestis exploring a new planet, Koboh. While IGN probably wanted fans to focus on the new dual lightsaber and force abilities, the community was quick to point out something that looked a little off instead – Cal’s walking animation.

As great as Jedi: Survivor’s footage looks, there are a few moments where Cal’s animation doesn’t look as smooth as it could. This is especially noticeable when Cal transitions from walking to running and when he runs uphill at the very beginning of the cutscene.

On the subreddit of the game, user drew4511 created a short comparison video, showing a new running animation compared to the old one, and asked people if they thought running looked “stupid”. Most commentators agreed that something was wrong with the animation.

One theory suggests it’s because the camera is slightly less focused than in the original, while another suggests it’s because Cal is a bit more muscular this time around. Some fans were quick to point out that in the original game, too, his running was a little awkward, although the two factors mentioned above seem to make his running even more ridiculous. One user had a better answer: “Looks like he shit in his pants.”

Cal’s new running animation may be the most obvious example of movement looking a little off, but it’s not the only example. A few other things that look a little weird include wall jumping and some attack animations for dual lightsabers.
