“We are a hospital of peace and a beacon of hope for children in the region, including the Emirates and Bahrain”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Professor Yitshak Kreiss, chief executive of the Sheba Medical Center, inaugurated a futuristic new Edmond and Lily Safra Children’s Hospital on Monday in a ceremony on the Sheba campus. The new hospital will be one of the most technologically advanced children’s hospitals in the world. In addition to the new medical technologies that the establishment will benefit from, the hospital will highlight unique early genetic tests, as well as the detection and treatment of rare diseases.
In addition to treating tens of thousands of children in Israel, the already existing children’s hospital cares for hundreds of seriously ill young people from the West Bank and Gaza each year, many of whom suffer from rare genetic diseases. “Building the new children’s hospital is a huge accomplishment and a great mitzvah to help these young people. I am sure you will do this with a great sense of pride and success. I have great faith in you to heal the children of Israel,” Prime Minister Netanyahu said.
“The futuristic new Safra Children’s Hospital will feature many new and unique divisions like you’ve never seen before, including a burns unit, an eating disorders division, and a special treatments for young people with genetic diseases,” Professor Kreiss said. “We are a hospital of peace and a beacon of hope not only for the children of Israel, but also for those in the region, including young people from the Palestinian Authority, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco. , which we’re already dealing with. That’s Sheba’s DNA.”
