Many iPhone users are complaining that the latest iOS update affects an important and essential feature on their phones.
And the recent iOS 16.3 update means that many users are now unable to back up to iCloud, which is one of Apple’s most beloved features.
Influenced users have taken to Apple’s support forums and Reddit to voice their concerns, after being confronted with error messages when trying to protect their data in iCloud, Apple Insider first reported.
And Apple’s iCloud service makes sure that users have a copy of the information on their iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. iCloud Backup makes a copy of the information on your Apple device, protecting users’ data from loss or theft, and making it easier to set up a new device.
iOS 16.3 launched in late January, and the update made security changes including the use of physical security keys, which act as an extra layer of protection for accounts. When users re-enable iCloud, they encounter pop-ups saying either “An unknown error occurred” or “An unexpected error occurred. Please try again later.”
For many people, two-factor authentication is also not enabled with the latest update, which can leave their Apple accounts at risk. Two-factor authentication means that users are required to provide two forms of identification to access their account, such as a password and a phone number. However, there are some reports of users who are facing the same issue but their two-factor authentication is still intact.
Despite this problem, iPhone users are still encouraged to install the update due to cybersecurity concerns, according to the newspaper The British Sun.
