Worst signing in Liverpool history revealed

Liverpool paid €40m above market valuation for Naby Keita when they brought the midfielder to Anfield in 201

The Reds paid 60 million euros for his services.

Since then, Keita has failed to hit the mark – he never found a regular place in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, being a secondary player whose form is temperamental at best.

Only now, with Liverpool severely short of players in midfield, has Keita managed to find a few starts. But Liverpool’s recent results speak volumes.

It makes you wonder if the 27-year-old, compared to the price Liverpool paid for him, is the Reds’ worst signing.

There is, of course, Andy Carroll, whose transfer from Newcastle in 2011 fell flat. But the forward has struggled with injuries during his four seasons at Anfield and has scored a few goals now and then.

Liverpool had to pay a premium for Keita. And now is the perfect opportunity for him to show some momentum. but Keita didn’t take the chance.

It’s a shame he was never able to justify the high price the Reds paid for him.

His contract expires this summer and reports say he is going to join the Bundesliga, while Galatasaray are interested but he is unwilling to go.

It says a lot that Liverpool are happy Keita is going for free and is unlikely to join a team of similar caliber.

Klopp appreciates Keita

Despite his dire situation, with Keita letting Liverpool know as early as last summer that he was considering his future, worried they hadn’t offered him a new contract, 90mins reports that Klopp remains a huge fan of the player.

The German coach has informed the club’s hierarchy not to rule out the possibility of offering him a new lease.

But it looks like the lure of a return to RB Leipzig is huge for Keita.
