Lavrov first arrived in Mauritania

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in the capital of Mauritania, Nouakchott. This is the first visit of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry to this country since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

During the visit, the minister plans to meet with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazwani and hold talks with Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk. The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that attention in the talks would be paid, in particular, to bilateral relations in the field of marine fisheries, including in the context of ensuring favorable working conditions for Russian fishers in the exclusive economic zone of Mauritania. It is also planned to discuss other issues of enhancing trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Sergei Lavrov is on an African tour. On January 23, he visited the Republic of South Africa. On January 24, Sergey Lavrov flew to the capital of Eswatini (until 2018 – Swaziland) for the first time. Today, February 7, he met with the leadership of Mali.
