A series of explosions and shootings have shaken Stockholm at the beginning of 2023. A power struggle between the “Greek”, Mikael Tenezos, 24, and the “Kurdish fox”, Rawa Majid, 36, is suspected of being behind several of the acts of violence.
One of the police’s main clues is that the conflict has its origins in a power struggle over the drug market in Sundsvall.
Mikael Tenezos, often called “The Greek”, is pointed out by police data as a leading figure in the criminal Dalen network. Tenezos has, among other things, been convicted of serious weapons offenses and drug offenses and has been involved in conflicts that the police link to fatal shootings in recent years.
Today he is abroad, far away from the violent acts in Stockholm’s criminal environment.
A few years ago he was a promising hockey talent who in Stockholm played for the clubs Spånga IS, Huddinge IK and Nacka HK.
– He was great, I think he would have gone far if he had continued, says a former teammate.
“Totally fucking unimaginable”
Mikael Tenezos is described by managers and players as fast and technical.
– He was a very good hockey player at that age, absolutely top player, says a leader.
The leader from the junior days in Stockholm hockey remembers a guy who listened to the training and behaved himself.
When the leader realized that it is the same guy who is now being linked to the wave of violence, he was shocked.
– For me, it’s completely unimaginable.
Moved to Kramfors for high school
But voices from youth also describe an early concern about what happened outside the hockey arena.
– He was a guy who took matters into his own hands, people respected him. It was known that he hung out in the wrong circles even as a youngster, says a former teammate.
When the grades were not enough for an elite hockey high school, Tenezos moved to Kramfors to try to take a different path to professional hockey life. That was not the case.
The new guy from Stockholm rarely socialized with his teammates off the ice and the absence from school became more and more noticeable.
– It went downhill even then, says one player. He came to training but then you didn’t see much of him. When you saw him, he was with another gang, the ones who had gone astray.
The weak school results put an end to Mikael Tenezo’s time in Kramfors. Instead, he played a few games for a club in Stockholm before disappearing from the hockey world.
In the same vein, he was convicted for a crime for the first time.
– That it would be this big, I couldn’t imagine at all, says a former teammate.
VÅLDSVÅGEN IN THE STOCKHOLM AREA
■ According to the police, some 30 serious crimes – shootings, murders and explosions – are linked to the wave of violence that has swept over the Stockholm area since Christmas.
■ The violence is judged to be part of several different conflicts between different criminal groups, where the designated gang leaders “The Greek” and “Kurdish Fox” are seen as two protagonists.
■ The start of the wave of violence can be considered Christmas Day 2022 when gang member Mehdi “Dumle” Sachit, who was a formal suspect in the investigation into the murder of Einár, was shot to death in Rinkeby.
