Contagious Polio, Pekanbaru Health Office Urges Parents to Routine Infant Immunization

RIAU ONLINE, PEKANBARU – The Pekanbaru City Health Office (Diskes) invites the public to vaccinate against polio for babies aged 0 to 59 months, or toddlers (babies under five years).

This vaccination is an effort to anticipate the spread of polio. Moreover, there has been an Extraordinary Event (KLB) of Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus type 2 (VDPV 2) in Pidie District, Aceh Province.

Head of the Pekanbaru Health Office, Dr. Zaini Rizaldy Saragih, said that polio can be transmitted. So to prevent polio can be done with a vaccine or polio immunization.

“Prevention is being done, yes, with this immunization, there is polio immunization drops and polio injections for children aged 0 to 59 months,” said Zaini.

His party will carry out polio immunization in February. The plan is that this simultaneous immunization will be held simultaneously with the West Atera Province

“We will carry out polio immunization in February 2023 simultaneously at posyandu, puskesmas and health service facilities,” he said.

He said that this simultaneous immunization would roll out on February 20. However, routine immunization can be obtained at posyandu and puskesmas.

With a child infected with polio in Aceh, the Ministry of Health determined this incident to be an extraordinary event (KLB). This is a warning for all provinces to be more serious in pursuing child immunization coverage rates.
