A Chilean girl of only 7 years, named Maura, has been diagnosed with breast cancer in a hospital in her country, a very rare disease in girls of such a young age.
The little girl, according to her mother, had her first symptoms at age 5, when she noticed a lump under her nipple while she was bathing her.
“The doctor told me that the lump was not normal, and that if I waited too long, it would grow, although he did not tell me that it could come to this,” said Patricia Muñoz, the little girl’s mother.
Due to the diagnosis, the recommendation was that Maura undergo a total removal of the breast to prevent the tumor from spreading to other parts of the body.
Patricia Muñoz has also declared that “my daughter is mutilated and that causes me a lot of pain. She doesn’t understand the magnitude of her illness and that she can’t have her breast, and I don’t know how she might feel when she’s older”.
Now, the family is awaiting the results of some medical tests to find out if the cancer has metastasized.
