The United States space agency, NASA, discovered a planet similar to Planet Earth. This planet is 40 percent larger in size and orbits in a habitable region.
The planet is named LP 890-9 c, referred to as a ‘Super Earth’ with a larger size and more habitable. According to NASA’s official website, the planet LP 890-9 c was discovered using the James Webb telescope.
Apart from planet LP 890-9 c, scientists have also found other planets that meet the habitable criteria. These planets are outside our solar system or are called exoplanets.
NASA discovered the planet LP 890-9 c while observing a smaller neighboring planet named LP 890-9 b.
The two planets orbit a fairly cold star or red dwarf star named LP 890-9 and are 98 light years from Earth, quoted from the NASA website.
Besides having an ocean, this planet also orbits a star like Earth. This planet is said to orbit the star for just 8.5 days.
According to the Space.com website, Super Earths meet the criteria of habitable planets. To date, astronomers have discovered two dozen super-Earth-like exoplanets. Although not the best, theoretically, these planets are more habitable than Earth.
NASA will examine the newly discovered planet through the James Webb telescope. The telescope is planned to use a spectrograph to detect light and use other instruments to detect the atmosphere of Planet LP 890-9 c.
Planetary scientists explained that the planet would provide new understanding for atmospheric studies because Planet LP 890-9 c is a planet in the habitable zone other than planets in the Trappist-1 system.
