Few users took advantage of the holiday to get vaccinated against COVID-19, but they did against influenza | Community | Guayaquil

The influx of public in the vaccination centers was low this Monday, February 6. The vaccination center of the Type C Health Center of Bastión Popular registered a low movement of users seeking to receive doses against COVID-19.

This center was among those enabled on Sunday 5 and Monday 6 for vaccination against the virus. The other centers in Guayaquil were San Francisco, Cisne 2, Martha de Roldós, Francisco Jácome, Ciudad Victoria and Posorja.

At these points the first booster dose was applied to people over 12 years of age and the second booster inoculation to people over 18 years of age.

Although there were not so many people interested in the coronavirus vaccine over the weekend, at the Bastión Health Center, at least 300 users attended to get vaccinated against influenza.

Children, pregnant women and the elderly were among the people who were vaccinated as part of a campaign that will continue until this month.

Lourdes Quiñones came to this health center to receive the influenza vaccine. Two weeks ago, a flu kept her in bed for three days with a fever of 39 degrees, malaise, cough and runny nose. She has the three doses of the anti-COVID-19.

“They recommended that I get a flu shot, and today I took advantage of it because I’m free,” he said.

Likewise, Pedro Ortiz together with his mother received the influenza vaccine and the booster dose of anti-COVID-19. “In our family, at least three have fallen with symptoms similar to (those caused by) coronavirus. We better come to prevent him from touching us and grabbing us tight,” Ortiz said.

Ana Villacís, on the other hand, came to the Martha de Roldós Health Center to find out about the vaccination of her daughter who is about to turn two years old, and also to find out the schedules to receive the vaccine dose against the coronavirus and influenza.

The 28-year-old mother of the family had doubts that this Monday the 6th, due to the holiday, vaccinations will not be available. “I asked and now that I know, I can go back. I have let time pass to get vaccinated against COVID and I also missed the dates when I had to bring the baby,” said Villacís.

In the case of the regular scheme, there are thirteen doses that must be applied during the first year of life (12 months), according to the calendar of the Ministry of Public Health. Then another six doses are applied that cover up to 23 months of age, and at 5 years two reinforcements must be completed.

The scheme that is displayed in health centers also includes the dose against the human papilloma virus, which is applied to 9-year-old girls for the prevention of cervical cancer, and to 15-year-olds, the vaccine against diphtheria and tetanus.

In the health centers, during this Monday, they received mothers who took advantage of the holiday to take their children to be vaccinated within the regular schedule that they must comply with during the first years of life. (I)
