Shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and heels are some of the points where this disease occurs. Bursitis is intense, throbbing pain that can be disabling.
Karime Hidalgo, a physiotherapist who works at the “Presidente Remón” (PPR) pollinic, of the Social Security Fund (CSS), said that this condition is due to an inflammation of the bursa or synovial bag, which is a structure in sac-shaped, which acts as a cushion to prevent friction between the soft parts of the joints, such as muscles, tendons and skin, with the adjacent bones.
The condition is caused by repeated movements or by sustained pressure on a joint, which is why people who work or carry out activities such as construction, plumbing, gardening, mechanics, as well as dancers and athletes are more vulnerable to suffering from said inflammation.
Its symptoms include:
• Joint pain and tenderness when pressure is placed around the joint.
• Stiffness and pain when the affected joint is moved.
• Swelling, heat or redness over the joint.
• Pain while there is movement and when resting.
Hidalgo explained that in order to recover health in the affected area, the fundamental rule, in addition to anti-inflammatories, is the performance of physiotherapy treatments, which include the application of ice, accompanied by exercises that will help with mobility and improve strength. , in addition to facilitating the recovery of functionality and the return to daily and work activities.
