On the night of Monday Norwegian time, the Grammy Awards took place in Los Angeles – the 65th in a row. Receiving a Grammy is considered the greatest honor in the music industry.
During the award ceremony, an emotional tribute is also usually given to artists, composers and music producers who have passed away in the previous year – something that was also done during this year’s music festival.
– I am heartbroken
Among the deceased stars who were honored, we find big names such as Loretta Lynn, David Crosby, Lisa Marie Presley and Olivia Newton-John. However, one name was left out, which has subsequently caused fans to rage.
Aaron Carter, the artist who started his career already at the age of nine, was not mentioned at all.
Last November, Carter was found dead in his own home, aged just 34. The cause of death is currently unknown.
Carter has never won, nor been nominated, for a Grammy, but many still believe he left a significant mark in pop music and therefore deserved a tribute during the memory segment.
Breaking the silence after his brother’s death
Aaron’s fans have now taken to social media to let the world know what they think of their idol being ‘forgotten’. It reports TMZ.
“Shameful of the Grammys 2023!”, says one.
“Ok I’m so upset about this!!!! So, why wasn’t Aaron included!!!”, rages another.
Melanie Martin, the mother of Carter’s son, also reacts. She reportedly told TMZ that she doesn’t understand why he was left out, adding that all he ever wanted was for his music to be recognized. The fact that he was not mentioned was thus a slap in the face both to their common son and to the legacy Carter is leaving behind, writes the website.
Answering the charges
Martin is also said to have believed that the award ceremony should make amends, either by honoring him at next year’s show or in some other way.
Carter has had several songs on the Billboard Top 100, including “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)” and “That’s How I Beat Shaq”, which ended up at No. 35 and No. 98, respectively.
