Jakarta –
A bird they are born with two heads, a rare condition that occurs about once in 100,000. This snake was later nicknamed Two Face, Batman’s enemy who has two personalities.
As quoted detikINET from the Daily Mail, the carpet python or carpet python was hatched in captivity in Australia. But once treated, the snake eventually died.
“The snake hatched in captivity and was initially thought to be a twin in the egg, but when it emerged it was not,” said Josh Linnas, a local veterinarian.
It is not known for certain how the two-headed snake came to be but it is thought to have been destined to become twins that did not completely divide. As mentioned, the chance of a two-headed snake hatching is estimated at one in 100,000.
And the chances of such a snake surviving are even less. Several factors, such as the position of the head, make it difficult to eat. “It would be difficult for any food to pass through the second head entry point,” said the doctor.
“There are two hearts and one is much smaller, compressed by the larger heart, and is thought to be failing,” he added.
‘Several tests were carried out and the snake is unlikely to live a good quality of life. That is why euthanasia is done to end and prevent suffering,” said Josh.
Research revealed that in addition to two heads, the snake has two brains, two lungs, two stomachs, two gall bladders and two hearts. The two heads share a set of intestines and kidneys, and they only have one testicle between them, whereas normal snakes have two.
Although each head functions independently, it is the left head that ultimately decides which way the body moves.
