Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – It turns out that JD.ID’s plan to permanently close has been detected since September 2022. This was revealed by a former employee who was one of the victims of a massive layoff last December.
“Actually, there have been rumors that it will close since early 2022. But it’s getting louder and clearer when it spills in September before the December layoffs. Moreover, the branches are also closed,” he told CNBC Indonesia. He refused to disclose his true identity.
In the marketing division where he works, only 20 of the 80 employees remain. According to him, the ‘remaining’ employees were deliberately prepared to ‘close the shop’.
“On average, there are only 2 to 3 people per team [setelah PHK Desember]. It was deliberately designed to close,” he said.
JD.ID is known to have laid off around 200 employees or 30% of the total in December 2022. Previously, in May 2022, JD.ID had also cut a number of its employees.
Presumably, the number does not show the actual number. The reason, according to the former employee, he was given the choice to lay off or resign himself.
If you choose resign status, you will be given a larger amount of severance pay. He finally chose to resign after working for more than a year on the platform. For the calculation of severance pay, he gets 2x the full salary according to the length of service.
In addition, he also received his full December salary, even though he was no longer active in the first week. Other bonuses are in the form of salaries until January 16 2023, THR, and year-end bonuses.
“Effectively starting from the resignation on January 16, 2023,” he said.
JD.ID Permanently Closed
JD.ID announced to customers about closing its services as of March 31. Customers can still place orders until January 15. The after-sales can be done until February 15th.
“This is a strategic decision from JD.COM to develop in international markets with a focus on building cross-border supply chain networks, with logistics and warehousing as the core,” said Head of Corporate Communications & Public Affairs JD.ID, Setya Yudha Indraswara in his statement. .
Previously, when deciding on layoffs, JD.ID said this step needed to be taken to answer the challenges of changing business. In fact, these efficiency measures were unable to continue JD.ID’s breath to take part in Indonesia.
“Adaptation steps need to be taken by companies to respond to the challenges of business change which have been really fast lately. One of the steps taken by management is to streamline so that the company can continue to move to adapt to changes,” Setya said at the time.
After carrying out the layoffs, JD.ID then closed the JDL Express Indonesia logistics service before announcing that it had completely closed its services.
