In order to enable young students to become blood donation ambassadors, before becoming blood donors themselves, associations of voluntary blood donors organize interventions in schools.
Indeed, awareness of blood donation must start early. Thus, the children of the CM1 class of Michel Bonhomme, director of the elementary group of the Paul-Babor school, benefited from information presented by René Trémoulet, responsible for collecting blood donations in the town.
Using a short film, a cartoon and then a slide show, the speaker defined citizenship with everyday examples. Then came the information concerning the daily needs in France and for the department, the composition of the blood, the reason for the transfusion of red blood cells, platelets or plasma.
The conditions for donating blood were discussed as well as the donor’s journey to the collection site. The interactive presentation method allowed children to actively participate in raising awareness.
At the end of the activity, the children received a draft notebook from the French Federation of Blood Donors, a comic strip on the topics covered, and, for parents, a triptych of information on donation, as well as a quiz of the French Blood Establishment.
This type of information is regularly produced by the various blood donor associations throughout France and helps to make blood donation known to the youngest and thus encourage them to make a blood donation as soon as they reach majority.
