YouTube has launched ‘Direct Share’, a new function with which a content creator can invite another person to their broadcast to carry out a joint live broadcast.
The streaming platform first reported the ‘Direct Sharing’ feature last year, and has now launched it in tests for a small group of people, with the intention of rolling it out to all users soon.
‘Share live’ allows a user to invite another to participate in their live. To do this, you can select anyone from the broadcast, but only one person at a time can join as a guest, as the company clarifies on the YouTube Help page.
It is limited to creators with at least 50 subscribers, as indicated by Engadget. The broadcasts can be scheduled through the web version of YouTube but in order to enter the broadcast, both the host and the guest must use the mobile application. It will also be possible to launch the joint broadcast directly from the mobile.
YouTube notes that at all times the host is responsible for the broadcast, in case the guest violates the community guidelines. This type of content is monetizable and may display ads.
