Her “daughter” asked her for money to pay her bills: a woman from Rheine was cheated out of a four-digit sum.
According to the police, the woman received a text message from her supposed daughter. In this she wrote that she had a new number and needed money to pay two bills. According to the police, the woman then tried to contact her real daughter – but without success. Therefore, she transferred the requested amount to an account abroad. Thus, the woman from Rheinen fell into the scammer’s trap.
The police appeal:
“Never transfer money to an unknown account number. Don’t let yourself be pressured, but take the time to consider whether the message is really from your relative. Contact other real relatives. Always check the authenticity of such messages before sending them act.”
