The RFU found out the attitude of the Asian federations to the possible transition of Russia to the AFC.
According to “Sport-Express”, during a visit to Bahrain for a meeting of the executive committee Asian Football Confederation President of the Russian Football Union Alexander Dyukov and vice president Maxim Mitrofanov held a meeting with representatives of various countries, including “not the most friendly”, and received full approval of the idea of changing the football region.
Asians are said to view Russian football as a source of new business opportunities and as a growth point for the promotion of football in the AFC.
A variant is allowed in which Russia, without leaving the UEFA, will receive temporary membership in the AFC and participate in the 2026 World Cup qualification in the Asian region. But such a development of events is called unlikely.
The RFU also held talks on holding friendly matches with individual representatives of the AFC. Most of the potential rivals are ready to play against the Russian team.
Also now the Russian Football Union is negotiating with one of the Latin American teams – they can play against it in Qatar or Turkey.
