Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The European Union plans to hit Russia with new sanctions ahead of the anniversary of Moscow’s attack on Ukraine.
This was stated directly by the Chairperson of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during her visit to Kyiv, Thursday (2/2/2023).

According to him, the existing sanctions have “eroded” the Russian economy. He also estimates that curbs on Russian oil prices are costing Moscow around 160 million euros a day.
On the same occasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the European Union to immediately impose more sanctions against Russia.
“We saw today that the pace of sanctions in Europe has slowed down a bit,” Zelensky said.
“The terrorist state has instead increased the pace of adaptation to sanctions. It must be resolved. We believe that we can do it together.”
He also warned that Moscow was regrouping troops to carry out “revenge” in Europe and Ukraine.
“Now Russia is concentrating its power. We all know that. Russia is preparing to try to take revenge, not only against Ukraine, but against free Europe and the free world,” Zelensky said.
On the other hand, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the West of not ‘simply’ wanting to help Ukraine, but also to destroy Moscow.
Lavrov also blasted European Union head Ursula von der Leyen who visited Kyiv on the same day.
“Ursula von der Leyen… said that the outcome of the war should be a defeat for Russia, the kind of defeat that for decades, for decades, Russia has been unable to recover its economy from,” Lavrov said.
